The Ghost of Kyiv has become symbolic of the Ukrainian people’s resolve in resisting and repelling the invasion of their country by the Russian military. Even though it has turned out to be more fiction than fact, the Ghost of Kyiv’s legend as an ace combat pilot, who shot down either 6 or 10 Russian jets during the early days of the conflict, continues to inspire people in Ukraine and around the world.
To commemorate the Ghost of Kyiv, and to raise money for Ukraine and the country’s refugees, Brickmania and Cobi have both introduced special models of the MiG-29, the jet that the pilot was credited with flying.
The Brickmania model is a custom LEGO set that is made out of more than 1200 pieces. It also includes a Ghost of Kyiv figure that has its design based off of the “collective image of the pilots of the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade of the (Ukrainian) Air Force“. The set primarily consists of LEGO elements, as well as pieces made by Brickarms and Brickmania, and is priced at $650. The minifigure of the Ghost of Kyiv is also available seperately for $50.
The version produced by Cobi features exactly 600 bricks, and is priced more modestly at 59.99 EUR. Similar to other Cobi sets, there are no stickers, only pad printed pieces that reflect Ukrainian insignia. A “simplified pilot figure” is also included with the set.
The set from Cobi is currently available, while the one from Brickmania is currently available for pre-order and is slated to be released on July, 25th.
