The concept for a The Legend of Zelda theme, not surprisingly, has gathered more than 10,000 supporters on LEGO CUUSOO. The theme concept features a variety of new parts, such as weaponry, swords and shields as well as minifigures of the main characters from the game franchise, namely Link and Zelda. The project will be reviewed by LEGO in June as reviews are now only conducted quarterly. Licensing will likely be the biggest issue during the LEGO review as Nintendo would need to be on board with the idea for the production of such a theme to occur. In addition, it is not yet known if LEGO would be willing to release another fantasy theme alongside the new The Lord of the Rings lineup slated to come out this summer. The iconic The Legend of Zelda video game franchise was created by legendary Japanese game designers Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka. Since the franchise first debuted in 1986 on the Nintendo Entertainment System, 16 titles bearing The Legend of Zelda name have been released, and combined, have sold nearly 68 million units.
